Gateway to Hope Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen ministry is sponsored by the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and is supported by volunteers from the membership and friends of St. George. The ministry is a partnership of Gateway to Hope, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, and St. George Episcopal Church. It is located at St. Patrick’s and is the only Soup Kitchen and pantry in Northeast Ocala. The Soup Kitchen assists many homeless veterans and families that reside in the Ocala National Forest. The people we serve work hard to take care of themselves and their families. They include the working poor, the unemployed, the elderly, the disables and the homeless. This is a very rewarding hands-on ministry.

Haven House

Haven House of Lake & Sumter Counties has been serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1977. St. George assists by collecting and distributing donated items such as toiletries and children’s gifts, especially at Easter and Christmas. The Women’s Guild coordinates these efforts on behalf of Haven, which serves this much-needed assistance for our local community.

Love INC

Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) coordinates resources in the community through its clearinghouse to help those in need. St. George is one of 39 local Christian churches that support the Mission of this organization. Every year St. George parishioners participate in events to support Love INC, including the Clothe-A-Kid and the very popular Giving Tree at Christmastime.

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Archaie, Haiti

St. George has entered partnership with the Diocese of Haiti as part of a local mission and outreach program with St. Thomas Episcopal Church and School in Arcahaie, Haiti. Approximately 2 hours northwest of Port au Prince, St. George has sent several mission teams through the years to discover the needs and opportunities for St. George to be involved as an Outreach project.

St. Thomas Parish has significant material needs in order to provide education for the 275 children who attend school daily. Priorities include food for the children’s lunch while at school, scholarships toward tuition, and books and supplies for classrooms. Long-term goals include teacher training, the need for additional classroom space, a computer lab and a reliable, alternative source of electricity.
