A Message From Our Senior Warden
The world has been shaken. The country has been shaken. Our church has been shaken. As I sit down on Sunday morning to write this article, I feel like I’m in London after the blitz and I’m about to crawl out from my bunker. I know the landscape will have changed. I just don’t know by how much. And then I think about the most profound change we could ever experience as Christians. We have just witnessed a miracle. In our darkest hour, when it appeared that our beloved pastor’s wife Tish was going to be taken from us, we prayed. And we kept on praying. We prayed for a miracle and God brought us one.
As we begin to venture out, we hear stories about the miraculous recovery of Tish Kelly. People that know you go to St. George, want to know what she is like. I told my friend that if you needed someone to pray for you, I would pick Tish. Somehow you just know that God hears her prayers. Tish is a friend to veterans, to the kids up at the soup kitchen, to the sick, to the lonely, and the hungry. Tish is as someone close to her told me, “A good Christian woman”.
After I told my friend about Tish, he said “Man, I want to go to your church and get some of whatever it is you people have”. That started me thinking about some of the things we’ve been doing over the last few years. Is it just a coincidence that Sally Dade and Fred Pack started the Ushers and Friendship Initiative? We are now more prepared than ever to accept new members. And what about Dale Dreps and LaVerne Collins and the Growth Committee? They are constantly seeking new ways to grow our church and expand our church family. And then there’s the Building Committee. They are making improvements to enhance our overall church experience and make us safer. And what about Father John’s virtual service that reaches more and more people every week? Not only do people hear Father John preach, but they get to hear our accomplished Music Director Andre Lash play our magnificent organ.
Are all these things just coincidences? Or do we see God’s hand working at St. George church. Will there be more people, like my friend, that know that the people at St. George prayed for a miracle and received one? People are afraid and confused right now. Many will look to God. If they show up at our front door, we will be ready to receive them. I don’t believe in coincidences, but I do believe in miracles.
