Join us for Father John’s Bible Study on the Psalms. This week’s topic is “Thirsting for the Presence of God.” To prepare, pull out your Bible and read Psalms 42 and 43. The study is very topical, especially with all that is going on in Florida and the USA.
I love the idea of the psalm as ‘an invitation to beauty’. I think this is why I enjoy the beautiful music during our services, don’t you think?
I want to sincerely thank you for bringing God’s word to us in our homes,God keep you safe and healthy always, Love, Lu McGraw
Thanks I love my little pond & I miss not seeing deers. 🦌. (Bill’s favorite dog was the Dachie)
Earlier today we stopped along the roadside to watch a doe with her fawn. Further ahead was another deer, who from the size, may have been the buck. I recalled the sight as you began reading from Psalm 42. I am enjoying your commentary on the Psalms. Thank you for making this Bible study accessible online.
Dale,
I think that “beauty” in a way can be a forgotten resource for today. People may have issues with endowing the arts. But, music and poetry raise the human spirit. City parks needed to be funded too. All offer hope and move us. Without such things the human landscape changes. No wonder our cities have changed so much over the last six months. What happens when you close a park, shut down concerts? They shut down our spirits from God’s Spirit. Just a thought
Lu,
Thank you… we can find the Word wherever we can. We see the Word in the Book and in each other.

Dolly,
We had the opportunity to rent a cabin in the Poconos a few summers ago. I fed one doe every morning. Her photo is in my office. I do wish we had a little more wildlife- other than coyote and alligators where we live!
Lynda,
That is a neat thing or as we might call it a “God thing.” I didn’t mention this, but there are more than 20 references to “deer” in the Bible. Somewhere it says, “He makes me as surefooted as a deer.” So, the Lord must love deer, bucks, and fawns if He lifts them up as examples of a godly life!
Bambi would be pleased.
I spent last week at the beach and my encounters with nature and wildlife evoked different emotions — a shark in the water close by (trepidation), pods of dolphins frolicking (delight), a baby bear cub crossing the road on my drive home (excitement), walks on the beach and beautiful sunrises (peace)— and you’re right, in all of it is that beauty, that invitation to witness the beauty of God. — I love that idea that an invitation to God is also an invitation to beauty. Deer are graceful and beautiful creatures and when I see one, they somehow emit feelings of peace and contentment.
