In this homily on the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost, The Rev. Nancy Bryson, Deacon at St. George Episcopal Church, expounds on the Gospel for the day which begins with Jesus asking, “Who do people say that I am?” Jesus made it clear to his followers that to follow Him meant making a choice to pick up the burdens and pain of others even when you don’t have to. Deacon Nancy cites the actions of First Responders on September 11, 2001, as an example of taking up Jesus’ cross. She states that it is important that each of us come to our own profession of faith which defines our relationship to Jesus and Jesus’ relationship to us.
