In this homily Deacon Peg Davis takes the familiar passage where Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do people say I am” and wonders what Jesus’ response would be if we ask, “Jesus, who do you say I am?” Send your thoughts or comments below or send an email to musingsonfaith@gmail.com.
Peg,
I enjoyed listening to your well-crafted homily, especially how you wove comments about Hannah into the beginning and the end.
I looked you up on the internet because I recently watched a live-stream from Bellarmine Chapel on women deacons. Today, I replied to an e-mail from Fr. Luke Hansen S.J. who is affirming women seeking ordination. I simply had to tell him that I see the Roman Catholic Church’s lack of response to the ordination of women as a systemic justice issue.
I believe the Roman Catholic Church is guilty of sexism and should address that issue first. I applaud all those women seeking ordination and believe you are living proof of the value of ordaining women. Thank you, Peg!
Barb: How great to hear from you! Thank you so much for your affirmation of my homily and most importantly of my call. How I miss our conversations about women’s role within the Church. I still hold on to a piece you wrote about hearing the rest of the Gospel: the women of the Resurrection Story. Let me know when you are coming to Florida, I’d love to meet with you and get caught up on our faith journeys. BTW, you are always welcome to join me in the Episcopal Church! Peace — Peg
