Thank you for explaining about the lectionary “editors.” I always wondered why verses were skipped in Psalms during readings. I’m looking forward to this study. Thank you.

Why do we allow the editing? Especially if it takes away the true feelings of David and his heartfelt meaning of his prayer. Those “nasty bits” don’t bother me. As you said, you have to consider the time frame. If these things bother you, boy are you going to have a hard time reading the book of Samuel. I look forward to hearing your commentary.
Thank you

Mary Ann,
I think you can understand where the editors don’t want to jar people during public worship. But, then, what David wrote David wrote. Or Solomon for that matter.
It happens, sometimes, with the Epistles and Gospels too. Trust the listeners… or the audience.

Heather,
True. Some of the Psalms can be very “naked” in their feelings. When one of the writers talks about the Babylonians- it is not very nice! But, then, again I believe we are experiencing (or reading about) an honest relationship with God. Would that everyone would go to prayer and be the candid with the Lord

Jan,
The Psalms get us through the hard times- but they are there for the good times, as well. Over the last few months, they have been part of my survival gear.
